Getting Started

What the app does, signing up, logging in, and the end-to-end workflow.

What this app is for

Peer Evaluation System runs an end-of-term classroom peer evaluation: each student scores their groupmates (and optionally themselves) against a rubric you define, and the app aggregates those scores into a per-student report you can attach to a grade. It replaces the Google Forms to spreadsheet pivot to mail-merge workflow.

Only teachers have accounts. Students never sign up and never receive email. They join an evaluation with a short access code you hand out.

The workflow at a glance

  1. Create a class and add its roster (type it in or import a CSV).
  2. Build a rubric in the Rubric Library (or reuse an existing one).
  3. Create an evaluation for the class, pick its rubric, and set the rules (who evaluates whom, minimum number of evaluations, whether self evaluation is included, open and close times).
  4. Activate the evaluation. At that moment the rubric and roster are snapshotted and become read-only for that evaluation.
  5. Hand out access codes. Students log in, score their peers, and submit.
  6. Monitor completion while the evaluation is open.
  7. Close the evaluation, moderate the written notes, review the results, exclude any bad-faith ratings, then release results to students.
  8. Export or print the final report.

Your home screen

Classes in the top bar is your home screen: one card per class, with the open evaluation’s progress. The top bar has four items: Classes, Students, Rubrics and Settings.

  • Get your first evaluation running appears on a new account. It lists five steps (create a class, add students, print access codes, create an evaluation, open it) and highlights the next one with a button. Hide removes it, and it goes away on its own once your first evaluation is open. The access codes step counts as done when you click a print access codes button on this device.
  • Needs your attention appears above the class cards when something is waiting on you, across all your classes: an evaluation that is closed and ready to release, flagged notes to review, students who have not given the minimum number of evaluations while the close time is near, and students with fewer than 3 evaluators. Each row has a button that goes straight to the right place. The list is hidden when there is nothing to do.
